The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Here are a few personal experiences I found interesting about diet supplements:
"Diet pills are a bittersweet. From personal experience, from ages
19-20 I took Hydroxycut and from 20-23 (on and off) I was on the prescription
drug Phentermine.
Sure I lost weight, but after 3 months I plateaued, and my body was thrown
into this vicious cycle of diet pill use. See, after 3 months your body gets
used to the pills, and it's nearly impossible to lose. And still, if you stop
taking the pills there is a rapid weight gain period that follows, so you take
more pills to try and lose again.
I have seen many women other than myself experience this, and taking diet
pills for long periods of time is very bad for your health. After a few months
I experienced severe constipation, and developed a heart murmur. Also these
pills send drugs to the brain, and I experienced euphoria, depression, and
developed eating disorders.
You don't seem to have too much weight to lose, so I recommend you do it the
old fashioned way, because you won't have to kick the pills later, or risk a big
gain after you've reached your goal.
I hope this helps!
God bless you :)

A mind is a terrible thing to waste and a
waist is a terrible thing to mind!
Each and every day millions of people
around the world are trying to find a quick way to lose weight. One of which is
the ever-expanding market of slimming pills. Yes, okay I understand the idea
has an obvious appeal for anyone struggling to lose weight, offering a quick fix
with no real hardship.
However, In the UK we spend £9 million a
year on slimming aids, and the market is growing day by day. Herbal diet pills
have become increasingly popular, with their promise to help people lose weight
‘naturally’.
I recently myself have been trying out a
weight loss pill called ‘Chasunjiaonang’ which I brought from my local Chinese
herbal shop. I thought, why not? If it means I can shed the pounds really
quickly without doing anything then it’s worth a shot… but boy was I
wrong?
When I initially began taking the pills I saw no change, in fact I put
on weight! Angry and upset over this, I decided to eat more healthily and I made
myself suppress my appetite while I was taking these pills.
It’s weird, the ‘doctor’ who recommended them to me told me to have a low fat intake whilst
taking these pills and told me to avoid eating any greasy or oily food. Then as
the weeks went buy I saw some difference and I began to lose a few
pounds. However, the shock came when my friend told me that subconsciously I
made myself believe that these pills were making me lose weight, rather then the
fact that I actually started to eat more healthily and cut out most the junk
food I would normally eat. What a waste of £30!
If only I thought about how ridiculous these pills were, then I wouldn’t have wasted so much of my time and
effort on it. So for those out there who want to lose weight fast, I suggest you
do it the old fashion way, by doing a little more exercise and eating a bit
better. Trust me it will work.Besides you didn’t gain the pounds overnight
so don’t expect to lose it overnight! Use your brains, and work hard and one day
you won’t have to mind your waist anymore.

My doctor put me on Phentermine again, which is a drug related to
Meth-Amphetimine. It is safe though, when used right because it's been available
since 1959. There was some buzz about it in the news in the 90s because doctors
were prescribing it with, I think it's called, Fenitol. The team was known as
Phen-Fen and caused many deaths, because those two drugs don't go together. So,
I'm taking the safe one, Phentermine. I couldn't take it for a week after I got
the precription though because my insurance doesn't cover it.
I've been taking it since last Saturday (06/14/2008) and I'm only having the good results
and no side effects. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant and it's funny when
you read the papers CVS gives you with it saying "We are not sure how
Phentermine works [it just does]" pretty much is what it says. On Sunday I
reached a weight lower than what I've seen for about 3 and a half years. I was
249 on Sunday and I've been losing a pound a day every day since then so now I'm
down to 244 which feels awesome.
I call Phentermine "training wheels" because you can only use it for a few
months according to my Doctor. During the time you are on Phentermine you log
everything you eat and she looks at that chart and helps you figure out what was
good and bad about that so you are at the point where you are thinking about
everything you are putting into your body by the time you are done with the
training wheels known as Phentermine.
She does try to teach you how to
lose the weight by eating healthy alone. Excercise comes after learning to eat
right. If you are already putting good things into your body excersie will work
so much easier when you're not fighting off those Butterscotch Krimpets and
Banana Splits. I'm going to start doing some minor Aerobic/Cardio and
excersices using my own body weight for toning (such as sit-ups and push-ups,
knee-bends).
Phentermine or any weight-loss supplement is not for
everybody, most people can lose the weight with just diet and excercise. Some
people, like me, need a medical push to get going these smooth sailing with be had
once I'm a few yards off the shore. I know Phentermine is a nightmare for some
people, but it doesn't make me tired, jittery, or anything like that. When I dieted in
the past, I had to really excercise about half of the day and starve my self.
Something about the insulin resistance makes it harder to lose weight. I assume
it's because the insulin, instead of turning into energy just becomes fat. Once I get closer
to the top end of my healthy BMI I'm sure the insulin resistance will fade and
I'll be more easily able to keep the weight down.
